Passion. Experience. Results.

BuzzPR is a nimble freelance practice I established in 2006 after many years in the PR-agency billings derby in Austin and Los Angeles. After deciding to go on my own, I concluded clients would see a much greater return on their PR and communications investment if I could focus my talents on building long-term relationships with a handful, versus a churning machine of many, that allowed for personal attention and delivering quality over quantity. The two greatest strengths that make BuzzPR unique are: 1) The ability to see media opportunities and proactively develop truly creative, out-of-the-box campaigns that get attention, and 2) Taking a direct, candid approach to push back and change strategies to make a campaign as successful as possible.

Over the last 11 (going on 12!) years, I’ve worked with some incredible startups, small businesses, book authors, musicians, and non-profits while expanding to bring on a close knit of freelance partners, well-established in their wheelhouse of services, to build a solid A-list team.

And what do I get?

Less sleep and more fun than I’ve ever had.

Here’s a little more background on my career that has carried me through this wonderful journey to where I am today.

Prior to launching BuzzPR: Managed both Sony Ericsson Developer World and ENCIRQ Corporation at PetersGroup Public Relations and was instrumental in positioning both as leaders in their highly competitive markets.

Before landing at PetersGroup: Was PR Manager for AlterPoint, Inc. where I took the company through a series of funding announcements and successful major product launches. I was instrumental in positioning the company as an award-winning key market player within twelve months by integrating product launches into a strategic marketing and PR campaign consisting of education and market-validation communication.

In 2000: Joined SocketPR (currently Blanc & Otus) managing Motive Communications, Wily Technology, Burton Group, 2ndWave, VCON, NFIB, Welcom, Austin Technology Council and NetWorker, Inc., to name a few. I positioned over half my client base as top market players by influencing the media/analyst community to track trends clients were setting, resulting in extensive media coverage and analyst reports.

In the beginning: I launched my career in the publishing industry as an assistant editor, writing for national computer-aided design magazines CADENCE and MicroCAD News, as well as for a variety of national association publications.

As promotions assistant for Austin radio conglomerate LBJS Broadcasting (now Emmis Communications) I worked on an array of local events, festivals and concerts before interning at Arista Records’ Texas/Tejano label, Arista Texas/Arista Latin, as a publicist promoting artists such as Robert Earl Keen, Sister 7, Abra Moore, Flaco Jimenez, and La Diferenzia.

In 1996: Moved to Los Angeles to work for RPR & Associates as a talent publicist for health guru/author Susan Powter; arts and crafts expert/author Sandra Lee (dubbed the next generation’s Martha Stewart); motivational speaker/author Ella Patterson (bestseller, Will the Real Women Please Stand Up!); and Spencer Johnson (New York Times bestseller, Who Moved My Cheese?).

Then: Worked as a publicist and producer for On The Scene Productions, an electronic publicity and production company. Clients included major record labels (Warner Bros., Universal Music Group, Arista Records, Atlantic Records), powerhouse publishing companies (Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, Prentice Hall, Chronicle Books, Readers Digest), television studios and movie production companies. I also worked on high-profile events and movie premieres alongside myriad celebrities, authors and musicians, producing satellite media and radio tours, electronic media packages, video highlights, electronic press kits and video news releases.

I’m a founding member of the Association for Women In in Technology Austin, and a former Board member for Women Communicators of Austin (WCA) and its special interest group, Freelance Austin, The Austin Advertising Federation (Austin Ad Fed) and Social Media Breakfast Austin (SMBAustin). I’m currently an active member of WCA, Freelance Austin, PR Over Coffee, Content Marketing Meetup, SMBAustin and MediaTech Ventures Meetup.

A graduate from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and emphasis on public relations, I’m also an active volunteer in my local community, frequently speaking at my alma mater, and for local professional organizations.
